The Second Regional Conference on Indology for Central and Eastern Europe took place in August this year in Vilnius, Lithuania. It comes after the one held at Warsaw University, Poland, in September 2005 the Central & Eastern European Indological Conference on Regional Cooperation, as a continuation of the initiative of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. The 2006 Conference hosted by Vilinius University was dedicated to “New Perspectives in the Education about India”. Discussed were: modernizing classical curriculum of Indian Studies (introducing social theory into humanities); exploring traditional Indian sciences and arts; linguistic perspectives of Indian Studies; spreading knowledge about India how to bridge academia and societies; networking Indian Studies in Central and East Europe; sharing experience through the mobility of teachers. At both the conferences Bulgaria was represented by participants from the Indology Department of Sofia University.
