Tolstoy and India

Dr. Violina Atanassova

From the XIX to the beginning of XX century India was very popular with Russians. The lecture is dedicated on the influence of the Indian culture on L. N. Tolstoy. Two were the main causes for the success of Indian thought in Tolstoy’s consciousness his absorption in the supreme questions of existence and his preoccupation with the Indian religious and philosophical tradition. Indian influences were embodied in the conceptual and literary works of Tolstoy, as well as they took place in his way of life and behaviour.
