One of the largest states in India, located more or less in the middle of the country, romantically called “heart of India”, is a plateau, streaked with the Vindhya and Satpura mountain ranges, which give rise to its main rivers. Home to glorious maharajas, builders, poets, saints and philosophers, musicians among whom Tansen. The land of Bhimbetka with its 600 rock-shelters from the Neolithic age, now in the UNESCO World Heritage List, and of the famous Khajuraho temples and the Sanchi stupas. Land also of some of the most attractive national parks of wildlife. Its capital Bhopal is a conglomerate of unique culture, heritage and modernity.
